Posted April 08, 2019 18:21:38Nicky Ds Burger King announced on Tuesday that it will close its first franchise in Australia, in Adelaide.
The restaurant chain said the decision to close its Adelaide location was made after three years of successful growth and a strong social media presence.
The decision follows the announcement earlier this year of plans to expand in Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia.
A spokesperson for the restaurant chain confirmed to the ABC the decision had been made after it had “seen fit” to take a more strategic approach in the local market.
“We’ve got a strong community, a strong restaurant network and we’re building on the success we’ve had in the Greater Adelaide area,” the spokesperson said.
“This is about giving back to the community, giving back and giving people the opportunity to do the things they want to do.”
It’s a hard decision for us but we’re not looking to make a lot of changes in the short term.
“The franchise has been in operation since it opened in January 2018 and had a strong following.
In a statement to the media, Nicky said the closure was a “big day” for the business.”
This has been a tough decision for our business but we’ve always done everything we could to ensure we were in the best possible position to make this decision,” he said.”
The decision is a big one for our staff and the community and I wish them nothing but the best.
“A previous franchise in the Adelaide area was shut down in the late 1990s after a series of franchise failures.
