Starbucks is coming under fire after it announced a coffee drink that includes the word “sex” and was described as “sexual”.
The Starbucks coffee drink was released this month in a series of promotional photos for its “hot drink” line.
Starbucks confirmed to Mashable that the drink, which was dubbed “Sexy,” was the result of a partnership with the porn industry.
The product is called “Sexiest Coffee” and is available for $1.99 at Starbucks locations across the US and Canada.
A Starbucks spokesperson told Mashable the coffee drink is a “sex-positive coffee drink.”
The spokesperson also said the drink contains “all natural ingredients including coffee, tea, cocoa, soy milk, and caffeine” that are not tested on animals.
“The Sexiest Coffee contains all natural ingredients like coffee, and tea, and cocoa, and is free of sugar, trans fat, GMOs, and synthetic ingredients.
Starbucks is committed to supporting the ethical sourcing of coffee, teas, and other natural ingredients in our supply chain,” the spokesperson said.
While the company is making a stand against the use of “sex,” it is still making fun of women in the industry.
In a tweet, Starbucks spokesperson Brooke Smith told Mashability the company had a number of “great partnerships with leading brands including Dove, L’Oreal, Dior, Gap, and Temptalia.”
“We encourage all brands to include our coffee in their offerings, as it’s a great way to engage with our fans,” Smith added.
The spokesperson went on to say the company wanted to help people who want to be “free from gender stereotypes.”
